In a wide-ranging interview, Marvin Gaye revealed he had been diagnosed with severe PTSD after a childhood attack by the same group he was with when he was a child.
Gaye said his PTSD and depression and anxiety had worsened over the years.
He had also had to cope with a lack of confidence and depression after a period of “reparative therapy” in the mid-1990s.
He said he did not know if he was an out and proud gay man, but he was still a man.
“I’m a victim of discrimination,” Gaye told ABC News.
“The stigma of my sexuality is there.
Gaye was not the only one who felt a sense of vulnerability after he had survived a childhood assault. “
People still look at me as if I’m a criminal.”
Gaye was not the only one who felt a sense of vulnerability after he had survived a childhood assault.
In a 2014 interview with the ABC, former rugby league player and Australian Rugby League Hall of Fame member John Farrar said he had struggled with PTSD after his father had been killed by a gang of teenage boys.
Farrars son had also been sexually assaulted by the gang members, but Farrary was too ashamed to report the incident to police.
Fairs chief executive Rob Brown said the mental health system needed to be reformed to allow more men and women with mental health issues to receive the care they need.
“There’s an urgent need to make sure that people who have a history of violence and abuse in their family or who are victims of crime, are treated in a way that’s compassionate and appropriate, rather than punitive,” Brown said.
“And I think it’s also an issue of making sure that there are better support services available to people who are vulnerable.”
Gaye, who has a disability, also said he felt he had lost his job after his former employer was taken over by the government.
He was eventually let go, and his former partner decided to leave him and move to New Zealand.
Gayer said he now had a job in New Zealand as a security guard but said he still felt the need to work in the shadows of the law.
“It is very difficult, but I feel I have to do it,” he said.
The report also revealed that some of the most widely supported anti-discrimination laws were not being implemented.
The Federal Government’s new anti-bullying legislation includes protections for transgender people and people with disabilities, but not gay and lesbian people.
“There’s a lot of people in this country that don’t feel safe because of their sexual orientation,” Gay, the former rugby player, said.
