It’s been a long time coming.
Since the election, we’ve seen a flurry of articles on narcissists as powerful, especially when it comes to power over others.
And yet, a new study published in the journal Personality and Individual Differences suggests that narcissists do not have any of the same innate and innate characteristics that allow them to be so dominant.
This could be because the narcissists in this study are not necessarily “victims” in the sense that they were victims of their own actions.
Instead, the researchers concluded that the narcissist’s power was rooted in their ability to manipulate others.
This “psychological primacy” is what allows narcissists to manipulate people and even their own families.
The researchers looked at the lives of 1,000 adults between the ages of 18 and 70 who reported their current or former relationship status, then looked at how their narcissist traits affected their ability, or lack thereof, to manipulate their partner’s actions.
For the most part, the narcissism researchers were able to detect the extent to which the narcissis had the ability to influence their partners.
But there were certain aspects of the narcisses’ manipulation that were especially interesting.
For instance, while narcissists tended to manipulate other people to the point of being abusive, their ability in manipulating others was not as high as it was for other types of narcissists.
This suggests that their ability is in fact a more situational phenomenon, with their ability at the moment more based on the way in which they were manipulated.
Researchers also found that narcissism is associated with greater negative affect, which is related to anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts.
For this reason, it’s important to remember that it’s not necessarily a bad thing for narcissists’ personalities to be strong, and that we should be looking for ways to increase their resilience and adaptability in the face of their destructive behavior.
