Poe has had some tough times recently.
Last week, she was fired from the American Music Awards after a racist tirade during a performance in which she made reference to black people being the “n-word” and “half-n—–.”
But she’s also had a solid year, with her “Black Girls Rock” album charting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and her latest album, “A Million Days,” earning her a Grammy nomination.
She is also the face of the #BlackGirlMagic campaign that aims to raise awareness about the lives of young girls of color in the United States.
Poe is also a well-known figure in hip-hop circles, with fellow rapper Nicki Minaj recently giving her a shot in a battle against rapper Lil Uzi Vert.
“I’ve always wanted to do something for my kids and that’s why I’m doing this,” Poe said on “Good Morning America.”
“I love doing music, I love doing television.
I just love it.
And I feel like the only thing that I can really do for them, the only way that I know how to do it is by giving back.
And that’s how I am going to keep doing it.”
